Born İbrahim Tatlı in 1952 in Şanlıurfa, Turkey, into a family of modest means, Tatlıses' early life was marked by hardship. He left school at a young age, working various jobs before being discovered by a producer while singing traditional folk songs at a construction site. His musical journey began in 1970 at the age of 18 with his first tape, Kara Kız/Beni Yakma Gel Güzelim , which he initially sold independently. He later performed in nightclubs (gazinos) and at weddings, honing his craft until a producer discovered him in 1976, setting the stage for his meteoric rise.
