It is the single largest source of texts for the Open Islamicate Texts Initiative (OpenITI), a major project to create a machine-readable corpus of pre-modern Islamicate texts. As of a few years ago, about 45% of the texts in the OpenITI corpus were sourced from Shamela [12†L9-L10].
